Hiring for Small Business Owners

Finding and hiring the best candidates can sometimes be challenging for hiring managers. When a small business owner doubles as a human resources department, choosing and retaining the best and most qualified employees may be even more elusive.

Volunteers from SCORE Bucks County, a local chapter of a national nonprofit organization focused on mentoring small business owners and entrepreneurs, hopes to shed light through its free workshop, Hiring for Small Business Owners, which will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe Street, Bristol.

Organizer Paul Weinstein, a SCORE Bucks County volunteer and certified mentor, said the discussion will focus on how hiring managers and small business owners can attract the right candidates. Also, Weinstein will share the importance of a quality hire and provide insight on job profiles and job postings.

Other topics for discussion include:

  • Evaluating candidates
  • Reviewing resumes
  • Interviewing
  • Checking references
  • Drug testing and background checks
  • Onboarding employees
