Penn State Extension’s Nutrition Links is a free program that offers research-based educational classes to participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve a healthful diet on a limited budget.  Our goal is to help them use the resources available in the most healthful and economical ways possible.

Who may attend this free workshop series? Parent or caregivers of a child 19 and under, adults, and older adults who qualify for: free or reduced school lunch; WIC; SNAP benefits, food pantry boxes/bags; and Pennsylvania Farmers Market vouchers.

Nutrition Links conducts adult nutrition education in housing developments, food pantries, senior centers, job training sites, and various other community locations.  We work with local agencies to recruit the participants with limited resources and conduct programming in locations that are convenient for our participants.

Participants receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the program (four classes).

Participants will gain skills to:

  • Improve diet and nutritional status
  • Select and buy healthy food
  • Develop new cooking and food safety skills
  • Manage food budgets and resources such as SNAP benefits
  • Increase physical activity to achieve better health
  • Make lifestyle changes that help balance home and work resulting in better work performance
