Event box
Alisa Dupuy portrays Mary Jemison, Deh-he-wä-mis,
the White Woman of the Genesee
Taken captive as a young girl near Gettysburg, Mary grew up as an adopted Seneca, becoming one of them and choosing to remain with and live like this tribe all her adult life. The Seneca were part of the Iroquois Confederacy or the Haudenosaunee- People of the Longhouse.
Alisa Dupuy portrays Mary as a bridge between two cultures- she who was born into one but became a woman in another. Alisa will teach some Seneca language phrases, the importance of Native American contributions, the incredible time period she lived in, including the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War and the story of Mary’s life, legacy and why she chose to remain a Seneca.
