Folk Song Boomers

You’re invited to join us at the Grundy Library when we host vocalist-guitarist Ken Lelen for a live, in-person concert at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the Library’s Snyder Room.

The Folk Song Boomers concert will offer folk, protest, traditional and singer-songwriter tunes that were sing-along anthems, radio favorites and hit recordings in the 1960s and 1970s for the post-WW II teenagers known as Baby Boomers.

“Mr. Lelen is a genial performer, with a pleasant tenor,” the New York Times said. “The songs he plays will never go out of date.”

In addition to singing familiar tunes, Lelen will play vintage acoustic guitars for an authentic, back-in-the-day sound. Made by Regal, Gibson, Martin and other American firms, they make music that’s striking for its character, tone and sustain without the use of pick-ups or electronic gizmos.

Lelen has thrilled audiences for 25 years at libraries, arts & culture centers, retirement villages, churches, senior centers, fraternal organizations and social clubs — playing 100 concerts a year across the East Coast and Midwest. His one-of-a- kind shows brim with catchy tunes, clever lyrics and amusing anecdotes.

“People of all ages love the songs,” the musician said. “And they’re pleasantly surprised by the robust sound and classy look of the vintage guitars.”

Seating is limited and registration is required.
