Explore the history of Northampton Township and Bucks County and its landmarks through early postcards of images taken by the Arnold Brothers from the late 1890s through the turn of the 20th century. This lecture will tell the fascinating stories of the Arnold Brothers Postcards, including unpublished Arnold negatives. This talk will focus primarily on photos and postcards of Northampton Township and adjacent communities.
Chase Palmer is a native of Richboro, and now resides in Solebury. He became interested in the Arnold Brothers from biking down the backroads in the township on the way to Rush land, where the brothers lived when they started their postcard business. He is an avid Bucks County history fan, and currently working on projects mapping the one room schoolhouses of Bucks County and finding historic photos for a then-and-now publication of each community from the Book “Place Names in Bucks County.” Chase Palmer’s book adds to Betty Davis’s work Postcards of Bucks County published in 1980, and features 248 Arnold Brothers postcards along with contemporary location photos from 1980 to today.
This program fulfills the Civic and Social Literacy for PaLA's PA Forward Gold Star program. There will be no salespeople present, no forms to complete, and the presenter will not receive a list of program attendees.
