Jim Murphy is a Philadelphia resident and certified tour guide. He does frequent in-person and online presentations on: “The Amazing Success of William Penn,” his book, “Real Philly History, Real Fast,” and “A Fast, Fun Look at Philly’s Awesome Public Art & Sculpture.” Murphy, a copywriter and former creative director at Devon Direct Marketing and Advertising, was the editor of Choices, an award-winning magazine published by the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, for nine years. Murphy grew up in Delaware County three miles from Philadelphia’s border, and later lived and worked in Bucks County for a few years. He moved to center city Philadelphia in 2008 and loves life there. Since then, he has written over 50 articles on Philly for local publications, wrote his book over an 11-year period, and more recently published 50 new free history blogs on his website, realphillyhistory.com. Murphy is proud of the fact that his first book, “Real Philly History, Real Fast” – was published by Temple University Press when he was already in his upper 70s. And that three years later, his book still appears frequently on Amazon’s Best Seller List of Philadelphia Travel Books. It was #2 on May 25, and #5 on June 17, 2024.
Signed copies of his book will be available for purchase: $20 for cash, $21 for credit card.
