The History of Juneteenth & How It Became a Holiday
Event box
Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) commemorates an effective end of slavery in the United States. It’s the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This one-session presentation will explore the importance of Juneteenth, what lead up to it, and how it became a holiday.
