SUMMARY:Second Saturday: The True Story of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow presented by Mike Jesberger
DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Lecturer Mike Jesberger on Saturday\, October 10
at 1:00 PM for this captivating presentation. Jesberger will share the
fascinating truth behind Washington Irving’s classic tale\, The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow.\n\nIn Sleepy Hollow\, villagers believed the infamous
Headless Horseman was actually the restless ghost of a Hessian soldier.
These Hessian soldiers came from Northern Germany\, rented out by princes
to fight alongside the British during the Revolutionary War. Because of
their fearsome reputation\, local residents connected ghostly sightings
with these mysterious foreign fighters\, fueling the creation of chilling
folklore.\n\nHowever\, Washington Irving combined historical research and
vivid imagination to shape the famous story still loved across America
today. While many readers know the fiction\, very few understand the
authentic Revolutionary War history that inspired the haunting legend.
Therefore\, Jesberger’s talk will reveal how genuine events from the
Hudson Valley shaped one of America’s earliest ghost stories.\n\nThis
program is generously funded by The Friends of the Free Library of
Northampton Township.\n\nAdvance registration is required and space is
 limited. \n\n
