Join us as we discuss The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry.
1960s London. Hazel is ready to move on from her job at a cozy rare bookstore to begin a promising career at Sotheby’s. On her final day of work, her life is turned upside down by a strange book that crosses her path: a novel called “Whisperwood,” about a river of stars that seems eerily familiar to Hazel. The book transports her (and us readers) back to 1939, when young Hazel and her sister Flora were evacuated from London to a country home along the river Thames—where Flora disappeared never to be seen again. “Whisperwood” was the name of a fantasy world that Hazel created to help Flora cope—a secret only known to the two of them. Does this mysterious book mean that Flora may still be alive? Hazel has never given up hope, and uses the book as a starting point in her search for her long lost sister.
