Event box
Come learn about a famed woodworker and architect whose workshop is located near New Hope. Lauren Griffin and Toshi Amagasu of the Nakashima Foundation for Peace and George Nakashima Woodworkers will present the program. Nakashima's work was influenced by Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright, along with the Japanese tea ceremony, American Shaker furniture, and the Zen Buddhist ideals of beauty. His workshop is a National Historic Landmark and is open to tours.
A short documentary video will introduce George Nakashima Woodworkers, and then the presenters will talk about the family business, the George Nakashima Woodworkers, and conclude by talking about the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Q&A will be at the end of the program.
Lauren Griffin is the Program Coordinator and Archivist at the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Toshi Amagasu is the great-grandson of George Nakashima. He grew up down the road, has been giving tours of the campus since he was a child, and currently assists his grandmother, Mira Nakashima, with sales and operations of the George Nakashima Woodworkers.
There will be no salespeople present, no forms to complete, and the presenter will not receive a list of program attendees.
