The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library is pleased to announce that former NASA Astronaut Daniel W. Bursch will appear at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Bristol Riverside Theatre (120 Radcliffe Street) in support of the Library’s NASA @ My Library initiative. In the event, 227 Days in Space: Astronaut Daniel Bursch’s Journey, Mr. Bursch will discuss his education, his career with the United States Navy, and how both served as a foundation for his journey to space.  Due to limited seating at the theater, tickets are required for this all-age, free event. Contact the Bristol Riverside Theatre at 215.785.0100 beginning Monday, August 13, 2018 to obtain yours. There is a limit of six tickets per person.

 

Born in Bristol, Pennsylvania and raised in Vestal, New York, Daniel W. Bursch, a former Naval Officer and NASA Astronaut, serves in one of the advisor positions in the Space Systems Academic Group at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS).

 

Dan Bursch was a Naval Flight Officer and graduate student at NPS before his selection as an astronaut in 1990.  Dan completed four missions to space, the most recent one as a member of the Expedition-Four crew to the International Space Station (ISS) from December 2001 to June 2002.

 

Bursch is an employee of The Aerospace Corporation, which fills the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Advisor position at NPS.  The Space Systems Academic Group at NPS is a unique interdisciplinary association consisting of 20 faculty and seven academic chairs / advisors.  His primary responsibility is to ensure that education and research at NPS supports the mission of the NRO, and he serves as a professor in several space systems courses.

 

Bursch graduated from the Naval Academy in 1979 (Physics), the Naval Test Pilot School in 1984 and has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Science from the Naval Postgraduate School (1991).
