Legendary aviator Jimmy Doolittle led 16 bombers off the deck of the carrier Hornet. Their target was Tokyo. It was America's first attack on Japan's mainland since Pearl Harbor four months before. The boost to American morale was enormous, but the pilots paid a tragic price. When they could not reach the air bases in China, crews had to bail out--some lost their lives, some were captured by the Japanese, and some were executed. This is the story of American heroes.
